I have felt the same sea breeze as you, so we can also be considered to have embraced each other.

As the stars shift and three years have passed since our last farewell, with the stabilization of the COVID-19 situation in the United States and the easing of social activities, on August 7th, nine Chinese university alumni associations in the New York area joined hands once again to hold the "2022 Joint Summer Picnic and Park Event" at Manorhaven Beach Park in Port Washington, Long Island, New York. After a hiatus of two years during the pandemic, this event, which has a history of 10 years and is the largest gathering of Chinese university alumni associations in the East Coast region, finally returned to the alumni community. Representatives from the Education Department of the Consulate General of China in New York, alumni from more than 20 Chinese universities, Chinese and overseas Chinese communities in the greater New York area, as well as local community representatives, with a total of more than 400 attendees, were present.

Weimin Yan, the overall coordinator of the event and President of the North America Alumni Association of Tianjin University (formerly known as Beiyang University), delivered the opening speech. He expressed that the past two years of enduring the pandemic felt like a century, but the joyful memories of alumni picnics were still vivid and fresh. The resumption of this joint picnic event was meant to recreate those happy moments together and fully enjoy the happiness brought by delicious food, games, performances, and competitions. He encouraged everyone to step out of their usual circles, break free from constraints, establish connections, make more friends, enrich and enjoy life, and make this day a highlight and unforgettable memory for all the alumni.

Consul Zhongbo Yang, Consul Kunpeng Wang, and Consul Wei Wei from the Education Department of the Consulate General of China in New York were invited to attend. Consul Zhongbo Yang, in his speech, acknowledged the achievements of the alumni associations in uniting alumni, enriching alumni's lives, and serving their needs. He congratulated the successful hosting of the picnic and park event. He introduced the functions of the Education Department of the Consulate General and encouraged alumni to actively participate in the vibrant "Chunhui Cup" innovation and entrepreneurship competition for overseas students. He also emphasized the importance of preventing telecom fraud and protecting personal and property safety, especially for recent overseas students, in order to achieve a safe, healthy, and enjoyable study abroad experience.

They warmly welcomed the participating alumni and guests, expressed gratitude to the generous sponsors, and thanked all the volunteers involved in the organization and performances.

In the subsequent social gathering, Yingchao Zhang (alumnus of USTC) and the band 330 (alumni from various universities) delivered brilliant performances, while Ruisang Zhou (alumnus of Wuhan University) captivated the audience with his passionate and energetic dance.

Renowned Chinese singer Haojiang Tian attended the event with his new book "Aida in the Arena" and interacted with the alumni.

When the gathering was unexpectedly interrupted by heavy rain, the enthusiasm of the alumni was not dampened. They continued to sing and play musical instruments in the pavilion, turning the social gathering into a large-scale group karaoke session. The rendition of classic pop songs and campus folk songs made everyone feel as if they had returned to their youthful and unforgettable campus days.

Dozens of RUC alumni from the New York area participated in this event, with some alumni even traveling from Washington, D.C., spanning hundreds of miles, to attend. Alumni gathered around the flag of the RUC North America Alumni Association, exchanging greetings and engaging in lively conversations. Regardless of whether they knew each other before, the feeling of being "home" made everyone feel a strong sense of familiarity. Especially for the young alumni who have recently studied in the United States, it was their first time participating in such a large-scale alumni gathering and encountering so many RUC alumni in a foreign land. They were excited and took the opportunity to seek advice and learn from their senior alumni about studying, living, and working in the United States.

This year marks the 85th anniversary of our alma mater, and the alumni gathered in a circle, expressing their heartfelt birthday wishes to our beloved university across the ocean:

On August 7th, coinciding with the beginning of autumn, according to Chinese traditional customs, it's time to "fatten up for autumn." In light of this, the event prepared a rich variety of food and beverages, surpassing previous years' offerings. There were customized sets from well-known local Chinese restaurants, satisfying nostalgic taste buds with authentic Chinese flavors. Refreshing watermelons were generously served to combat the summer heat, and there were also delicious snacks like "Donkey Rolls" and savory pastries that received rave reviews.

Over the years, the joint alumni events among the nine universities have not only provided a joyful gathering for both old and new friends, but have also unintentionally become a bridge for single alumni, with numerous examples of people meeting and eventually getting married. In this event, alongside the diverse programs in the main venue, the organizing committee specially set up a matchmaking corner and designed various ice-breaking games to create opportunities for single alumni to encounter their potential partners. The alumni association has put considerable effort into addressing the practical concerns of the alumni, earning recognition and praise for their dedication and thoughtfulness.

Xinyi Jiang, an alumnus of Renmin University, and Hanqing Fan, an alumnus of Peking University, served as the hosts for this event.
